Last week the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced the termination of the Temporary Protection Status for Haitians (TPS) – giving nearly 60,000 Haitians throughout the U.S. 18 months to return to their homeland. Local activists and politicians are concerned, saying the island nation is not prepared for this potential influx and are asking for more time – and a permanent legislative solution. We discuss what this decision could mean for thousands of Haitians living here in South Florida.
