More than 35 years since the first case of AIDS was reported in the United States, HIV and AIDS continue to devastate communities. Sadly, South Florida has some of the highest rates of new diagnoses in the country — with rates spiking in 2015 to more than three times the national average. We speak with the doctor behind the first legal needle exchange program in Florida, and hear how it’s helping save lives by reducing the spread of HIV – while addressing the opioid epidemic at the same time.
